Very credible arcade conversion of the early arcade classic. This is one of the famous early games using vector graphics to draw the ships and make the asteroid shapes. In this Atari 8 Bit version the asteroids are solid shapes of varying colour, starting off blue. Due to a lack of buttons on the controller, the shield function, where temporary protection is given to the player's ship is not implemented here. The game is viewed from top down, and has the player's triangular ship avoiding and shooting the asteroids. When hit, the asteroids break into smaller pieces, so some strategy is needed to make sure the playing field is not overwhelmed with smaller rocks. To make the game a bit more tricky, every now and then an alien ship moves across the screen firing at the player. The play area is single screen and wraps round, so for instance if the player goes off the bottom of the screen, the ship comes back on at the top of the display. Many different versions of the games have appeared over the years, and the game has been ported to many different home systems, and continues to be enjoyed after more than 40 years.
